Leeds Wellbeing Centre - Who are we?
.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Leeds Wellbeing Centre was set up by local charity Multiple Choice in 2009 to provide counselling and bodywork therapies to adults with mental and/or physical health issues in the Leeds area. We do this from our premises at the bottom of Eastgate and by visiting Community Groups across the City.
Many of the people that we see live on the margins of society. Some have problems such as schizophrenia, learning difficulties, or post-traumatic stress disorder. Others may be homeless, returned service personnel, the victims of torture or trying to deal with addictions or victimization.
The aim of Leeds Wellbeing Centre is to make these people feel valued again, set them free from the exhaustion and pain that are daily features of their lives and contribute towards enabling these people to live in mainstream society.
How do people come to us?
Our clients are referred to us from other organisations across the Leeds area for example we get referrals from NHS Psychiatrists or Community Mental Health Nursing Teams. We work closely with the NHS Acute Inpatient Units but also get referrals from third sector organisations such as Leeds Mind or Carers Leeds. In addition we work with Community Groups such as Holbeck Elderly Aid and Leeds Women’s Project.
Funding
We fund our activity in the following ways:
- We treat private clients at our Centre and 100% of the proceeds are used to subsidise treatments for more disadvantaged people with mental and/or physical health problems.
- We have a “Friends of Leeds Wellbeing Centre” scheme whereby people can contribute a regular monthly amount towards our subsidised treatments.
- We visit employers and run clinics in the work place to reduce work related stress and ill health or to help employees stop smoking.
- We take part in events such as employee team building days offering taster massage sessions.
- We apply for grants for specific pieces of work for example, we recently delivered a time limited project, funded by the Department of Health, providing therapies as a support mechanism for carers.
